I recently finished reading Nat Cassidy's When The Wolf Comes Home and was pleasantly surprised at his spin on the Werewolf horror trope. I began this book with the expectation of full moons and silver bullets. Boy was I wrong. Cassidy hammered me with a story that I will never fully be able to describe. I'll try to keep the spoilers to a minimum.

When The Wolf Comes Home opens with a waitress who, like many waitresses, is a young

woman who is just trying to make it in this world. She's an aspiring actress who is looking for her big break.

She comes across a young boy who is running from someone or something. Jess takes the boy into her home to care for him and before she is able to figure out what she should do a creature slaughters her neighbors and her roommate and sends Jess and the boy on the

run.

She later discovers that the boy has special abilities and things get even worse from there. I won't say anymore because I don't want to give away anymore spoilers. But let's just say that this book gets weird real fast and the weird just keeps coming. But in a good way.

If you love a good twist, you should definitely read When the Wolf Comes Home. I don't think I've ever read anything quite like it and honestly, it threw me for a loop. I read a lot and at this point in my life I thought it would be hard to surprise me, Cassidy proved me wrong.

When the Wolf Comes Home is a fast-paced, action-packed, horrifying adventure through the mind of a child. Cassidy brings to life the fears and anxieties of childhood in a way that only he is able. If you've ever wondered what is going on inside a child's mind, don't. Just walk away. You might come to regret it.

Five out of five stars from me.
